The good thing about graduate institutions in the United States is that they don’t just open their doors for Americans or for people who are, though not Americans by blood, are already living in there. Graduate schools, which include MBA instituions in the United States, also welcome foreigners to their staff as well as to their studentry.
So, are you a foreigner who is seeking MBA studies in the United States? Here’s my advice: go for it and do not hesitate to apply for your preferred MBA program in the school of your choice. But first, you may need to get yourself acquainted with some pieces of information as per foreigner application in US MBA schools.
Secure your student visa.
Please be reminded that while you are worrying about your application to your preferred school, you also have to take care of your means of entry to the United States, too. Make sure you have a passport and that you will be approved for a student visa. Visas that foreign students to the US usually have are in the F, J, and M categories. This means that you may either be an exchange visitor (J), a temporary resident who will leave the country as soon as you finish your studies in the States (F and M), or a dependent of an exchange visitor (other F and M categories). Check with the United States Immigration to know which is best for you.
Prepare for the TOEFL and other tests.
TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. Most, if not all, MBA institutions in the United States would require their students to have a good command of the English language.
Also, prepare for the GRE and the MBA admissions essay. Foreigners are not exempted from taking these tests. The GRE and the admissions essay are tools used by schools in the States to determine if you are fit for your preferred MBA program.
Allot time and money for this endeavor.
Just the visa processing already costs a lot of time. Also, prepare at least $2,000 for your testing and application fees. This excludes travel fees. Travel fees, on the other hand, are intended for tours, in case you would want to visit your preferred MBA institution in the US. But honestly now, if I were you, I’d rather make sure first that I pass all the exams before I would even bother to go to the school.
